well, I don’t know much about the positives on playing golf, but I know this sport has a long history of some serious back injuries……

well it definitely works your upper arms and back. the twisting of the back as you take a swing stretches you and it feels good. As far as blood pressure. it depends. For some peoplke it can be very relaxing, for others, it can get them riled up and raise their blood pressure.

The advantages of playing golf is that you get to walk a lot chasing a little white ball, but the disadvantages is that you may get high blood pressure because the game might not go the way you expected it.

Here’s a chart of calories burnt while playing golf, and some information from a website I found. The address follows at the end of this posting. Hope this helps!

The American Council on Exercise (ACE) recognizes golf as a legitimate sport for fitness. While golfers do not need to be in peak cardiovascular shape, they need strength, stamina, flexibility, coordination, concentration and skill in this challenging game. What’s more, golf is an excellent part of a complete health regimen. That’s because a well-rounded fitness program does more than improve your health. It also improves your golf game.

How many calories does playing golf burn?

You have a great deal of control over the amount of calories you burn playing golf. You can choose an easy-paced game, ride in a cart and burn the minimum numbers of calories. Or you could double the number of calories you burn by carrying your own clubs and walking. The actual calories burned during golf also are affected by body weight, intensity of workout, conditioning level and metabolism.

The Activity Profile of NutriStrategy Nutrition and Fitness derived the following caloric data on research from the Journal of the American College of Sports Medicine:

Calories burned per hour

Body weight of 140 lbs / Body weight of 195 pounds
Golf, carrying clubs 350 / 487
Golf, pulling clubs 318 / 443
Golf, using power cart 222 / 310
Golf, miniature or driving range 191 / 266

This was pulled from the following website:

All I can tell you is the golfers who walk everyday live for ever. We have a lot of people playing over 90 years old.

Walking a round of golf means you just walked about 5 miles, carrying maybe 20-30lbs on your back not to mention the several swings you will take which is working muscles. Walking by far is more beneficial than ridin
