need to look up for certifications and study the manuals.. Some god ones are:

24 HOUR FITNESS organizationS recognized: AFAA, ACSM, ACE, Cooper Institute, ISSA, NASM, NCSF, NESTA, NFPT, NPTI, NSCA, PFI, PFIT

Make sure that the certification you choose is acredited. Stay away from the cheap certifications online, some even will give you the answers but no gym or facility will hire you with that certification.

ACE ACSM are very respected certification programs. I agree with the above poster to stay away from cheap, online certifications.

A BS in any health related field is a huge plus.

Personal training certification often specialize in some type of fitness. For example, athletic trainers work with athletes, weight loss specialist would work with a very different client and need a different base of knowledge. So make sure that the certification you look matches what and who you want to train. Another growing certification company that is accredited is NFPT, check them out at NFPT.com for more information.

I would also recommend that if you’ve met a trainer that has inspired you ask them how they started and what they recommend. There are many price ranges and certs available, and if you find a trainer that you like they might allow you to work as an intern for lesser pay while you go through your certification process.

Best of luck!
